The Bruce Highway, Cairns Southern Access Corridor (Stage 3), Edmonton to Gordonvale Project (E2G) offers valuable insights for professionals working in the erosion and sediment control field, particularly in high rainfall tropical environments. This area is characterised by unpredictable weather, intense and regular rainfall, high temperatures, high humidity, extended wet and dry seasons all while being surrounded by UNESCO World Heritage areas. The project’s catchment includes both the Queensland Wet Tropics and Great Barrier Reef World Heritage sites. This presentation will explore the challenges, best practices, and lessons learned from this extensive road and rail project, highlighting the importance of integrating resilience and sustainability in erosion and sediment control.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this presentation, attendees will:
understand the unique challenges and risk of erosion and sediment control in the North Queensland Wet Tropics and high rainfall areas by exploring the specific environmental conditions and challenges faced on the E2G project, and learning how these factors influence erosion and sediment control practices.
implement effective practices in erosion and sediment control for high rainfall and tropical environments by learning about successful techniques and innovative management tools that have been applied on the E2G project.
integrate sustainability principles into erosion and sediment control practices by discussing methods for achieving infrastructure sustainability in these practices.
